The Shrine of Saint Joseph

1220 N 11th Street
Saint Louis, MO 63106

The Shrine of Saint Joseph was founded in 1843 by the Jesuit order for the local German community on land donated by Mrs. Ann Biddle, who was also a benefactor to the order of nuns who established Caroline’s high school, Visitation Academy in Saint Louis. The central altar is a near-exact replica of the Altar of St. Ignatius in the Jesuit Gesu Church in Rome. The church, a St. Louis landmark, is also on the National Register of Historic Places and is the location of the only authenticated miracle in the midwestern United States.

Complimentary shuttles will be provided from the Missouri Athletic Club to the church. For more information, please visit the “Additional Information” tab on this website.

The Missouri Athletic Club

405 Washington Avenue
Saint Louis, MO 63102

The Missouri Athletic Club was founded in 1903, just in time to host athletes and dignitaries for the 1904 Olympics and World’s Fair. A fire destroyed the original building in 1914, but by 1916 a new clubhouse had been erected on the same site as its predecessor. Like the Shrine of Saint Joseph, the Missouri Athletic Club is also a St. Louis landmark and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
